This fun, vintage quilt is technically a "sampler/friendship" quilt. It's a sampler quilt because each of the quilt blocks contains a different pattern and it's a friendship quilt because the blocks have been sewn by different people and signed by each of them. All of the signatures are accompanied by locations in Pennsylvania and a date in 1936. The quilt is made of cotton and includes a combination of hand-appliqued and hand-embroidered blocks. It is elaborately hand-quilted, with scalloped edges all the way around. This quilt really has it all! Some of the patterns are well-known, such as Sunbonnet Sue, the shaker/school house, the basket, and the various flowers, while others are slightly less common. This is my new favorite quilt!!!
Houses and flowers and birds, oh my!
