19th Century Signed Antique "Crazy" Quilt

"Crazy quilts," made in the 19th Century from pieces of elegant silk, wool and cotton fabrics and used to decorate the homes of wealthy individuals, are sometimes signed by their makers, which makes the quilts more interesting and more collectible.  This quilt includes a signature by Miss Mollie Ekhert, as well as two panels indicating that she started the quilt in 1887 and finished it in 1888.  The quilt has a burgundy velvet border and elaborate embroidery designs including those typical of the time period, including horses, flags, people, and flowers.  The back of the quilt is a patched brown.  If you zoom in, you can see that some of the old fabrics have significantly deteriorated over time, which is to be expected on such an old piece and does not diminish the overall beauty or the historic importance of this piece.  The quilt measures 67 x 76 inches.
