Harvard, MA Shaker Community Tilter with high seat. Cherry Wood. Early 19th C. Elongated pommels with central scribe mark and sharp shoulders. Three graduated and subtly arched back slats each with rounded bevel. Tapered stretchers indicating production date prior to when factory methods of production were introduced into this community which began making and selling chairs in the late 1820's and stopped production in the early 1850's. Working wood tilters featuring half sphere balls. Cane seat secured by wooden pins. Vintage refinish. One seat rail split as pictured but seat remains intact. Overall height 42". Seat Height 20.5".
