Mount Lebanon Shaker No. 6 Transitional Slat Back Rocking Chair

Early Mount Lebanon Shaker No. 6 Transitional Slat Back Rocking Chair with Cushion Rail.  Circa 1875-1880.  Maple.  Early mahogany finish.  4 back slats stamped "6" on topmost.  Delicate curvilinear arms and bold mushroom caps along with wooden pins securing the double swooped rockers identify this chair as one of the three types of "transitional" chairs produced by the Shakers as their chair manufacturing moved to the more fully machine produced "Wagan Standard".  Slender backposts.  Vase turning on front posts.  Vintage blue velvet seat on frame.  This chair pre-dates the use of Shaker decals and cost approximately $8.00 when new!  For a more fulsome examination of transitional chairs  and the Wagan Standard please see our blog posts The Transitional Chair and The Wagan Standard.   Approximately 41.5" high, seat 20" x 18".  Could potentially remove cushioned seat and replace with custom woven tape.  Contact us for price.
