Silver-Plate Oversized Primitive Hogscraper Candlestick

Silver-Plate Oversized Primitive Hogscraper Candlestick. 19th Century.  Wedding band shaft.  This hogscraper candlestick is an oversized example of this common early form of lighting device most likely used for a shop display. The thumb tab is used to raise the candle and eject the residual candle stub. The lip around the candle holder, called a bobeche, is to collect drippings.  The name "hogscraper" comes from the candlestick's resemblance to an antique device used to scrape bristles from a hog after slaughter.  This candlestick measures an impressive 19 3/4 inches.  Contact us for price.
